Where getting away means getting together
Greetings,
You've got a lot of choices: golf, sightseeing cruise, beer tasting, bike around the lake, services at Evensong Spa and area events. Isn't fall great? Fall is my favorite season not only because of all the activities available, but because it is just such a gorgeous time of year here in Wisconsin. Take a weekend and really enjoy the beauty of the season.

Happy Travels,

Fall Lawn and Garden Tips
The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting cooler. Autumn is definitely on its way. Here are a few tips to get your lawn and garden ready for the fall season.

Plant your spring bulb garden now. The spring- blooming bulbs are planted in the fall to provide the chilling time required for spring blooms.

Prune any dead branches from trees and shrubs. Fall is a good time because the areas that need to be pruned are easily visible while the foliage is still on the healthy, living parts.

Aerate your lawn for healthy grass next spring. Aeration allows greater movement of water, fertilizer and air, which stimulates healthy grass.

Get items like your lawn mower and garden hose ready for storage. Drain the water from your garden hose and store in a spot where it won't freeze.

It's Not Too Late
It is no secret that Green Lake's scenery is absolutely beautiful in the fall. And there isn't a better way to take in the autumn colors than on an Escapade cruise.

We have a special Beer Tasting Cruise this fall on Friday, September 26 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. If you're drinking the same favorites year-round, you're missing out on great seasonal brews. The beers brewed for fall are as distinct as the season itself. Come sample eight flavorful beers from Unibroue, including a special new release. Click here to learn more.

Our public sightseeing cruises run on the weekends through Oct. 12. There are sightseeing cruises on Fridays at 3:30 p.m., Saturdays at 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and on Sundays at 9 a.m. Reservations are required. Check out our web site for more info on the Escapade.

Eco-friendly Travel Tips
In honor of Heidel House Resort's Travel Green Wisconsin certification, here is our monthly tip to help you stay eco-friendly while you travel.

Walk, bike or use public transportation as much as possible when you travel.
Green Lake has great bike trails. Now, you can even bike all the way around the lake on a designated trail, click here for a loop the lake map.

When the car is the only reasonable way to get from point a to point b, you can save fuel by cutting back on idling. If you idle for more than thirty seconds, you are better off turning off your car and restarting it. Plus, the more gas burned, the more carbon dioxide enters the atmosphere. So turn the ignition off at long stoplights and other lengthy hold-ups. And rather than using the drive-through, just park and take a short walk to go in.
