October 2006 Heidel House News
Greetings,
The best time of the year is almost here. The holiday season is approaching us with Halloween leading the way. There are so many important decisions to be made, like deciding what to wear for your costume and how to decorate your pumpkins. And, of course, the holiday seasons bring many opportunities for unique and fun holiday foods. In this issue, I want to have some fun with Halloween and share a favorite Halloween recipe. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Happy travels,
Jennifer

Pure Renewal Circuit Package

With the opening of our new spa on September 1st, I thought it would be fun to introduce you to some of the services and packages we have to offer. One of our overnight packages is the Pure Renewal Package that includes a one night stay and an assortment of spa services.

The Pure Renewal Circuit Package is a tribute to one's Self. The day begins with the ancient art of relief, healing and renewal. Experience the Volcanic Body treatment that includes a full-body exfoliation and wrap, combined with our own 50-minute Labyrinth Heated Stone Massage, finishing with an intensive Solar Song Manicure and Pedicure.

The total time for the spa services in the package is 4 hours, but you have a choice of having the services done all in the same day or splitting them between two days. What a great way to spend a weekend!

Creamy Pumpkin Soup

Eating soup is a great way to stay warm during the cold fall and winter months. A special Halloween recipe that is one of my favorites is Creamy Pumpkin Soup.

Easy Home-Made Costume

Halloween is coming quickly and if your child doesn't have a costume already, you may need a quick and easy home-made costume idea. This squeaky-clean costume is lots of fun.

Craft Materials:

  • 12-gallon plastic tub
  • craft shears
  • 3 yards of wide pink ribbon
  • rubber ducky
  • hand towel
  • hot glue gun
  • double-sided tape
  • 9-inch white balloons
  • safety pins
  • pink sweatshirt
  • socks
  • leggings
  • shower cap
  • face paint
  • Instructions:
    1. Using craft shears, cut out the bottom of the plastic tub (parents only).

    2. Remove the handles and thread the ribbon through the holes to make suspenders, as shown. Adjust the suspenders to fit your child and knot the ends together under the rim. Attach a rubber ducky and hand towel to the edge of the tub with hot glue or double-sided tape.

    3. Blow up several balloons and knot the ends. Working from the inside of the sweatshirt, slide a safety pin through the shirt and into the tied-off neck of the balloon. Repeat until the shirt is covered with bubbles (be sure the bubbles are not where the suspenders will lie).

    4. Have your child put on the pink leggings, pink socks (over her shoes), bubbly shirt, bathtub, and shower cap. Pin or tape on extra bubbles to the tub and her cap, leggings, and socks -- and draw rosy cheeks with face paint. As in real life, your child may never want to get out of the tub.

    Clayton Miller Band

The Clayton Miller Band will be performing at Thrasher Opera House on November 11.

Clayton Miller Band is a "Stevie-Ray-Vaughan-meets- T-Bone-Walker blues" and is composed of 4 family members including dad Larry, and brothers Clayton, Cole and L.D.

Some of these family members have been making some important appearances lately. Cole and L.D. recently placed 2nd on "American's Got Talent". On September 13 Cole and L.D. also made an appearance on the Ellen Degeneres Show.

    Sadie Hawkins Day

Sadie Hawkins Day is coming up on November 13 and girls everywhere will be on the lookout for that special boy. Did you ever wonder where Sadie Hawkins day comes from?

Sadie Hawkins Day was the invention of Al Capp, creator of the "Li'l Abner" cartoon strip. Capp conceived of a day in Dogpatch, U.S.A., when all the unmarried ladies could pursue their men. If caught, the hapless bachelors were soon heading down the aisle. This fictional world so captured people's imaginations that Sadie Hawkins Day passed into the realm of modern folklore. The first Sadie Hawkins Day took place on Wednesday, November 9, 1938, but it's usually celebrated on the nearest Saturday to accommodate all the "girls-ask-boys" school dances and other events.
