State Chili Cookoff

Coming September 10 is the annual State Chili Cookoff in Green Lake. Contestants vie for the top prize of "Best Chili in Wisconsin." Some of the best professional chefs around, along with "everyday Joe's," whip up batches of their self-proclaimed famous chili. If you would like to compete, call Bill Munsey at 920.294.6504. Pre-registration is required.

Visitors are encouraged to sample the many different kinds of chili. Cooking starts at 10:30 a.m., live music begins at noon, and judging of the chili at 3 p.m., with sampling by the crowd to follow. Activities run until 6 p.m.

Golden Days Harvest Fest

Apples, sweet corn, ice cream, candy, nuts, flowers, fruits, spices, bison meat, sausage, cheese, and too many more to mention - is exactly what you'll find at the Harvest Fest Farmer's Market. Area vendors offer a tempting array of homemade pies, desserts and jams along with homegrown fruits, vegetables and plants.

The farmer's market is just one of the many reasons you will enjoy Green Lake's annual Harvest Festival. With a full weekend of events on September 24 and 25, it is the perfect addition to your vacation. Some of the highlights on Saturday include Green Lake's largest parade, scarecrow contest and evening street dance. Sunday's events include a pancake breakfast, Taste-of-the-Town food fair, waiters race, classic/antique car show, and a live auction. Both days will host a craft fair, farmer's market, live musical entertainment, face painting, games, raffles, and much more.

If you plan on staying that weekend, you'll want to make your reservation soon. September is always a busy month at our resort and I want to make sure you get in. Just call the reservations department at 800.444.2812.

A Christmas Carol

I am so excited about our new event this year: A Christmas Carol performed by Gerlad Charles Dickens! I know it is early to be thinking about Christmas, but I wanted you to be the first to know about this very special event. Tickets may sell fast, so if you want to see the show, call now to reserve yours: 800.444.2812.

Gerald Charles Dickens, great-great grandson of Charles Dickens, performs "A Christmas Carol". The English actor uses a variety of voices to portray the 26 different characters that appear in Charles Dickens' beloved 1843 story of Christmas past, present and future. Dressed in a frock coat, cravat and embroidered waistcoat, Gerald Dickens leaps, laughs and sobs as he actively interprets his ancestor's timeless tale.

We will host two performances, a tea and a dinner show on December 16, 2005. Full menus are available online. I'll send you a reminder as the date nears.
